The 'Secret Teachings' Reborn
The Mysterious Life and
Mission of Manly P. Hall
By Mitch Horowitz
The late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries saw an explosion of spiritual teachers and impresarios dealing in “secret wisdom.” Their ranks included hacks and frauds — as well as more than a few genuine scholars of esoteric traditions. Most have vanished from memory, their writings a historical footnote. There exists one distinct figure, though, whose movement and teachings not only survived his passing but are even experiencing a revival in our day. His name is Manly P. Hall. While few academicians will ever know of him, Hall was among the twentieth century’s – and perhaps any century’s – most commanding and unusual scholars of esoteric and mythological lore. Yet the source of his knowledge and the extent of his virtuosity can justly be called a mystery.
While working as a clerk at a Wall Street banking firm – the “outstanding event” of which involved “witnessing a man depressed over investment losses take his life” – the 27-year-old Hall self-published one of the most complex and thoroughgoing works ever to catalogue the esoteric wisdom of antiquity, The Secret Teachings of All Ages. Hall’s Secret Teachings is almost impossible to classify. Written and compiled on an Alexandrian scale, its hundreds of entries shine a rare light on some of the most fascinating and little-understood aspects of myth, religion, and philosophy.

A number of mystics are working on elevating humanity towards (not utopic) greater appreciation of every particle.
As for moi loads of bottom - end heavy lifting, for others, higher frequency clarification.
There must by now be tens of thousands of planetary workers, I met 3 others in my last job, in my new job there are quite a few more.
It is my destiny to ensure we all continue and that future workers are able to support future goals as they become apparent.
The Lao Tse quote has become drab because I am not leadng, surviving more so.
I associate with High C only marginally, the rest is goddish claptrap, there is huge spiritual bollocks everyhere - my role is the sceptic at any cost.
"It only points, it doesn't designate."
That should've been:
"It doesn't designate, it only points."
A distinction without a difference, perhaps. Still.
I think you make a good point, and I'm troubled by the concept of Utopia used as pejorative in derogatory reference to any elevating human imperative.
Mind your bottom-end...and go easy on Taoist masters.
Listen. Lao Tsu designated that when judgement is suspended, nature returns to it's idyllic essence. The naked truth is that life is pointless and illiterate and so over itself without the harmony of the spheres. Negatively, its a road to nowhere, positively, we're going home. Don't get cynical about 'home'. When I find my honey its gonna make me feel good.

You're not full of shit, Z.
Just very nearly so.
Ha! Ha! Thwack!
In the realm of the "secret teachings", Carlos Castaneda's books are my favorite by far...even if they are the brainchild of a deeply dichotomized individual. I think I got more out of reading his body of work than any other in the genre.
The brilliant thing about brujos and neophytes is that the western Aristotelian trend was always about a 'dereglement de tous les sens' which remained passionate but controlled. When I read the Teachings... I lost my mind and fucked my chances of credability. I looked through the door of perception, liked it, and passed on through the other side. Some people in my head called me back. Was that necessary? Might have been another Sid Barratt. Jez, I just don't fucking know. I know that I have forgotten more about the occult than most people will know.

"To achieve the mood of a warrior is not a simple matter. It is a revolution. To regard the lion and the water rats and our fellow men as equals is a magnificent act of a warrior's spirit. It takes power to do that."

Bloody brilliant, nice way to wake up (in the morning).
