Quite often I find that the sexier fringes of religon and faith hanging out under rubrics like gnostic and hermetic, tend to provide a hitching post to more flamboyant or exotic personality types. The planetary faith con even attracts the sceptics to clean up the straggling bands of believers dawdling along the coolcool margins. Don't give those powerful pricks an excuse to let loose a new barrage of paranoia. Suspend belief, believe nothing and deride everything.

Investigate, using all tools available. Belief? Bah.

Just saw this book:

Buddhism without Beliefs, by Stephen Batchelor.

Buddhism as psychological approach to living a more satisfying life, rather than as a religion.

at this list: Buddhism bibliography

Seems to me you are so concerned with someone trying to pull the wool over your eyes you can't turn that labyrinthine mind of yours toward coming to terms with what truly is.

~There is no God and we are his prophets.~

-Cormac McCarthy-

Man is superior to the stars if he lives in the power of superior wisdom. Such a person being the master over heaven and earth by means of his will is a magus and magic is not sorcery but supreme wisdom
