Global Resource Corporation has invented a machine they call the Hawk-10, which can be adjusted to produce a wide range of microwave frequencies in order to achieve this transformation. In New Scientist, Catherine Brahic quotes GRC’s Jerry Meddick as saying, "Anything that has a hydrocarbon base will be affected by our process. We release those hydrocarbon molecules from the material and it then becomes gas and oil."

fuck me gently indi, i don't expect good news from you, surely there is an evil kickback from this process?
anyway if it's true, it's a hellofalot better than so-called "biodegradable" plastics - which merely break down into plastic molecules and spread evenly through the food chain, helping to remove fertility...
Ok, Deek, you began your comment with an expression I used to use all the time. Nice that it's still operating, but it's a bit shocking with a British accent.
While I may not be commonly looked to for good news, I occassionally report it when I find it. And besides, good news needs no reckoning. So, what's the point...generally...eschatologically?
Regarding plastics, they all break-down into molecules, eventually. The scary thing is they have already been incorporated into the food-chain, and have even been found within the dna of humans.
It's my limited understanding that organic/biodegradable plastics, made from cellulose and plant esters, are far more ecologically desirable than petrochemically based plastics.
I didn't realize they might interfere with my fecundity?
I fear I may yet have to clone myself.
The horror...
