The End of the Industrial Age
The Long Descent
A User's Guide to the End of the Industrial Age |
By John Michael Greer |
Americans are expressing deep concern about US dependence on petroleum, rising energy prices and the threat of climate change. Unlike the energy crisis of the 1970s, however, there is a lurking fear that, now, the times are different and the crisis may not easily be resolved. The Long Descent examines the basis of such fear through three core themes:
Hope exists in actions that range from taking up a handicraft or adopting an "obsolete" technology, through planting an organic vegetable garden, taking charge of your own health care or spirituality, and building community. |

Good Morning Indi
OT
Did you ever read Bageant's piece last month? -- Skinny Dipping in Reality/A coot's account of the great hippy LSD enlightenment search party
Is he -- THE MAN -- or what!
Talk to you soon -- been so busy with the musical production at our school these past few months
Thanks JC, nice to hear from you.
Yeah, Bageant has a way about him. I read the first part of this and immediately thought how much healthier our society would be if this sort of humor and honesty characterized our social dialog as the cosmos tries to grow us up.
Indi - you also have a superb way of putting things!
I just love how Bageant can express what's happening around us. It's almost like he's a cynic without being cynical. I really like that about him.
Thanks. Is that you, JC?
I'm going to post that dog dream clip. Too funny!
OH CRAP!! I forgot to change users on that comment.
When I saw you had posted it, I just assumed you saw it over at blondesense. When I saw you also linked to NHS Music Express I thought -- WOW -- how did Indi find his way over there. Now I see how you found it...
Yes, "Parent" is me. I started this music blog for the kids at the beginning of the school year in hopes of getting them off of their face books, Instant Messaging, etc... and get them to start blogging with their parents. As you can see, I've been talking to myself for months!!
OH I CAN SOOOO RELATE TOO! As a matter of fact, I just had to throw away ANOTHER fitted bed sheet because of the huge rip in the sheet where my feet are supposed to be resting during the wee hours.
"RUN FORREST - RUN!!!" I think I must clock in at over 100mph some nights!!
Jersey
(I see I'm still posting as parents -- gotta go change that now. )
Good on ya. Very cool.
